MONTHLY WRITERS' MIXERS

Writers' Mixers happen the first Saturday of each month, at 5pm.  The events are free and do not require a reservation.

May 5, 2012, 5pm

Featuring Carolyn Rose and Mike Nettleton, the Deadly Duo of Deadly Duo Mysteries

Mystery, Murder, the Killer and the Victim

This month, we'll welcome mixer founder Carolyn Rose and her partner in crime fiction, Mike Nettleton.

What are the motives for someone to commit murder? What are the reasons someone "becomes the body" in a murder mystery? What are the pros and cons of killing a likeable character versus killing a character no one likes?  How interesting or unique can you, the mystery writer, make the crime?

Learn answers to these and other questions at this month's mystery writing workshop!  Bring a pencil or pen to write with.  Index cards will be supplied for you.

Carolyn and Mike will be giving away several of their early mysteries at the mixer.

POETRY OPEN MICROPHONES

Every second Thursday after closing time, come on out to the Ghost Town Poetry Open Microphone.  Featured poets change eachmonth, but there's always an open mic for local poets.  Come meet, greet, read and listen! Always all ages, always uncensored.

Poetry Open Microphone

Hosted by Chris Luna and Toni Partington

Come and share your favorite works by yourself, friends, or favorite poets.

May's featured reader at the Ghost Town Poetry Open Microphone is David Matthews.  David Matthews is a native of the South Carolina Midlands, poet, runner and unaffilliated intellectual who began writing in high school.  He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in philosophy.  Romantic vision and sense of himself as a poet led to the dubious decision to forsake pursuit of an academic career.  One day Matthews found himself in Atlanta at the birth of the Little 5 Points art scene and lingered there for twenty years. In 1998 he came to Portland, Oregon.

David is the author of two chapbooks, Notes to One Who Is Far from Here and A Portable Bohemia.  Both will be available at this month's reading for five dollars each.

Join us for an evening of inspiring poetry and camaraderie.
